On February 7th, Hurricanes defensive back and kick return specialist, Parker Orr, committed to continue his academic and football career with the Valley City State University (VCSU) Vikings, a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) program located in Valley City, North Dakota, USA.

Originally from Regina, Saskatchewan, Parker joined the Hurricanes in 2022 while studying in the Business Administration program at Holland College.

When Parker was asked why he chose Holland College to begin his post-secondary playing career, he responded that Holland College was “An opportunity to prove myself and get exposure without having to commit to taking a four-year program.”

Orr was signed on VCSU’s national signing day and is one of the 35 student-athletes whose official commitment was announced. The signing day announcement included recruits from North and South Dakota, Hawaii, Alaska, Florida, and California amongst other states in the USA, making him the only Canadian amongst this group of VCSU commits.

Orr added to his comments on how his time with the Hurricanes prepped him to play at the next level saying “I got a lot of play time during my time at Holland which helped me develop as a player. Not having a 100-man roster does help players get a lot more reps and gain confidence.”

After graduating from the Business Administration program in April, Parker will have three months before his work begins with VCSU in July.

The Holland Hurricanes are four-time Atlantic Football League (AFL) Champions with their sights set on hoisting the Moosehead Cup once again in 2024.
